Functional Anatomy
Students study the structure and function of the human body. Acquire the knowledge necessary to understand body function and how it relates to massage.
Pathology
Pathology is the science of the cause and effect of disease. Students study pathology for each body system and how to determine proper massage protocol for each situation.
Kinesiology
Kinesiology is the disciplinary study of movement. With lecture and labs, students learn how to locate and identify muscles, tendons, ligaments and bony landmarks of the human musculoskeletal system. Additionally, they discover how the body moves through space.
Massage and Bodywork Application
This course focuses on body mechanics, proper draping, client positioning, bolstering and community service. Western philosophies include: Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue, Sports and Chair Massage, Hydrotherapy, Hot Stone Massage and self-care. Eastern philosophies include: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Universal Energy, Chakras, Grounding and Centering.
Massage Theory
Massage Theory includes the history of massage, massage equipment, environment, sanitation, state laws and regulations, 10 hours of first aid and CPR certification, 40 hours of Ethics, and 40 hours of Professional Development.
Therapeutic Procedures and Assessment
This course offers a comprehensive view of client intake and assessment procedures, including assessment in massage and bodywork, client interviews and health forms, documentation, client files, and medical terminology. A large portion of this course covers adapting sessions for clients that are experiencing common pathologies and special populations.
Massage Clinic
This course covers professionalism, session management, and sessions with clients. During clinic, students practice their skills by working on the public. Students are supervised by an LMT who will be available to provide clarification and assistance.
